"I would also like my viewers to know that for many inmates across the U.S. it's difficult to obtain art supplies. At the time that I worked on this piece I only had access to a #2 educational pencil that I purchased off of commissary and what I used to shade with was a homemade shader rolled out of toilet paper."

🖋 Artist's bio

My name is Jose Campos #29170. I am currently a resident at the Wyoming State Penitentiary in Rawlins. I've been down for 8 years now on a 25 year to 50 year sentence. Art has always been a passion for me even before incarceration. It has always been an escape and a release, a way to project a part of myself and present it in form that's pleasing to the eye. I depict a lot of religious scenes, a sharp contrast to the guard towers and razor wire fences that prison art is known for. I started working on this piece while reading the book of revelations where it talks about tha Lamb of God opening the scroll with the seven seals. With everything going on right now with the protests, riots, and COCID-19, I believe it best reflects how I feel about what is going on in the world today. I would also like my viewers to know that for many inmates across the U.S. it's difficult to obtain art supplies. At the time that I worked on this piece I only had access to a #2 educational pencil that I purchased off of commissary and what I used to shade with was a homemade shader rolled out of toilet paper. So shout out and much respect to all the inmates, convicts, and to anyone locked down who is also sitting in the mix of all this chaos throwing it down with a state pen or pencil..
