"Art has helped me manifest my own world through simply pressing a couple pencils to paper and creating something that puts smiles on people’s faces and that’s worth living for in my eyes!

✑ Artist's bio

My name is Arthur Espinoza. I’m 26, born December 6th, 1994. I’m a Denver born and Denver raised artist. I grew up in the west Ridge Projects on the west side of Denver where art has always been a big thing amongst the Chicano community, so growing up was always in my face; from watching my friends sketching graffiti on paper to seeing big, beautiful murals on my way to school to hearing about my pops being an artist in his own way when he was younger! Growing up my family always told me I was “artistic” and “creative” I just never pursued it. I’ve always played around with doodles of little cartoon characters, like being bored in class and drawing little versions of my teachers or friends here and there. I like to believe my creativity and artist’s hand comes from my pops. But to be honest, I didn’t really start getting into it until I did my four years at Sterling Correctional Facility. Believe it or not, I’ve only been drawing since July, 2018, but it was something that took me away...far away! Still, to this day, art is something that I can trust to help me express myself, what I’m going through, how I feel, and what I’m trying to say! Art isn’t a hobby that helps me pass time, it’s an escape, it’s a lifestyle, it’s my world. In my world I can be who I want and do what I want. It’s not very often I can do that, but when that pencil is in my hand I feel more alive than I ever have in my whole life! So, if you ask me what art means to me, it’s simple, art is life! Just like many people who have struggled, I’ve been an outcast, and lived through my heartbreak, betrayal, loneliness, and cold nights, even thoughts of giving up. Art has helped me manifest my own world through simply pressing a couple pencils to paper and creating something that puts smiles on people’s faces and that’s worth living for in my eyes! Art has given me purpose! Art, to me, is therapy. Art is the song I hope never ends. It’s my drug of choice, and I’m barely getting started, so the best is yet to come. “I AM ART!” .
